Released by the “beacon of innovation” that is SIZE Records, the new Matador remix of AN21, HIISAK, and Able Faces – Alright has been announced for 17th November this year and brings new light into the mesmerizing track and its memorable lyrics. The original track, released in 2022, was a cool, shadowy Melodic House record steeped in bass-heavy synth undertones and waxy production, also featuring some brooding, introspective lyrics (“time slips away with no feeling / blind to fallacy for no reason”) that helped to establish the song’s troubled, almost sinister feel. The track was well-received on its original release, considered by most writers to be a testament to the collective talents of its contributing artists – Swedish producer/DJ AN21 (also pronounced Antoine), Italian producer, DJ, and drummer HIISAK, and Scottish Dance duo Able Faces (consisting of brothers Jack and Mark McNeilage).
This new remix, meanwhile, gives Alright a huge shot of energy in the form of an Afro House beat, shimmering keys, and rumbling bass rhythms. A particularly notable moment comes about two-thirds into the track after the drop; the original vocals soar climactically off into the mix, and from thereon the layers of rhythm gradually begin to build, giving listeners the sense of a gradual increase in pent-up tension and pressure. Eventually, this tension is released right at the very end of the song, as fresh, invigorating keyboards float gracefully into the atmosphere, and a hissing sound signifies the end of the track.
There will undoubtedly be some Melodic House fans who prefer the original 2022 version of AN21, HIISAK, Able Faces – Alright, not least because this is the version in which the pensive lyrics are really allowed to shine. However, this new Matador remix also has its merits, particularly in the way it brings a fresh Afro House flavor to this already exceptional track.
