Any regular EKM readers will know that we are huge fans of Lithuanian producer Rushkeys, which is why we are particularly excited to announce his new Electronica single, Echoed. Featured on the Be Vol. 6 compilation on the Be Your Own Studio label, the track combines chopped up field recordings with dreamy synths, heady grooves, and warm, atmospheric production.
Rushkeys – Echoed Turns Field Recordings Into Sound and Memory
We have covered many highlights of Rushkeys’ discography over the years, notably his original track Inner Flow, and remixes of tracks including Korora – Kivi, Ablozé – Home, Unsui – Messages From the Blue, and muuju – odeon. This new release, meanwhile, is set to take a more nostalgic turn, inspired by that bittersweet feeling of summer coming to an end.
The real intrigue of this track lies in the field recordings, which Rushkeys has chopped into fragments and worked into the arrangement. These aren’t just decorative background noises, however. Rather, they carry personal associations for the producer, turning everyday sounds into something musical. Little synth motifs skip and flutter around the mix, their echoes overlapping as warmer layers unfurl beneath them. There is a lovely contrast between the playful, almost restless details and the track’s more reflective mood too, making it feel like trying to hold onto a memory while its edges gradually begin to blur around you.
How Echoed Blurs Melodic Electronica and Deep House on Be Vol. 6
Don’t let all this wistfulness fool you, however, because Echoed on Be Your Own Studio has enough of a groove to match its more atmospheric elements. Textured percussion and a rounded bassline give the track a gentle but insistent pulse, bringing it towards Deep House territory without sacrificing its laid-back Electronica feel. The rhythm provides a steady foundation for those fragmented sounds, while the melodic elements drift in and out rather than clamouring for attention.
It is a balance that Vilnius-based Rushkeys, otherwise known as Domas Ruškys, has developed across his work, moving comfortably between Downtempo, Organic House and dancefloor-friendly Electronica. On Rushkeys – Echoed, he uses this balance between Electronic and House specifically to capture the hazy space between the last days of summer and the arrival of autumn. The result is as enjoyable for its tiny production details as it is for the bigger picture, and makes for another extremely strong addition to his discography.
