Up-and-coming, Cologne-based producer RCN released his Deep House single El Abismo earlier this year, and now he has released an EP simply titled The Remixes, which sees the song reimagined in four different ways. There’s the Relax Remix, the La Puerta Remix, the Contemporary Remix, and the Brazilian Relax Remix, all of which serve to add another dimension to this deep, groovy and entrancing track.
Four Remixes, Four Ways Into El Abismo
The EP opens with the Relax Remix, setting a softer, more atmospheric tone before moving through three further interpretations. The names of the other remixes also hint at their distinct moods, from the groove-focused Brazilian Relax Mix to the vocal-led Contemporary Remix and the late-night La Puerta Remix. These aren’t simply four copies of the same club track, but rather they stretch El Abismo into a small collection of listening moods.
Deep House Between the Dancefloor and the Afterglow
There’s a pleasing balance here between movement and atmosphere. The basslines give these remixes a low-end pulse, while the synths leave room for the vocals and their sense of drift, ensuring that these remixes work for both a packed dancefloor and the wind down at the end of the night.
RCN describes the project as:
“It’s about finding a unique, comforting beauty in the unknown and in the depths“
And the remixes carry that idea perfectly through their shadowy, immersive character.
RCN and Airdem Shape the Sound From Cologne
RCN made the project with longtime collaborator and co-producer Airdem in their Cologne home studio. The partnership gives the EP a shared, considered feel, while the four versions let the original track open out in different ways. RCN’s wider catalogue includes releases such as Velvet Void and Gölgeler, and his music moves between Deep House, atmospheric electronics and more cinematic textures. El Abismo – The Remixes adds another chapter to that developing Deep House sound, inviting listeners to sink into the groove and see where it goes.
