Masked, mysterious artist REAPER brings his own brand of heavy bass and emotional new Vocal / Melodic Drum and Bass to summer 2023 with REAPER – BLACK FIRES, a track full of big, bold melodies and even bigger, bolder drops.
Led by the voice of angelic-sounding songstress Calivania, the new REAPER 2023 Vocal Drum and Bass song is also the latest addition to a long line of intense, gritty solo and collaborative Drum and Bass tracks recently released by the artist. We’ve covered a number of these releases in the past, with some of our favorites including the ferocious XLR8, the Ragga-infused MASHUP, and the futuristic RUNAWAY featuring Josh Rubin.
But let’s get back to REAPER – BLACK FIRES, and talk about what makes it such a hot-blooded, spirited Drum and Bass track that we reckon is one of the artist’s most accomplished releases yet.
The key element of the song is its drops – reminiscent of a chainsaw in sound but turned into something a lot more complex than that when it is overlaid with Calivania’s ethereal vocal line and underpinned by unforgivingly pulsating drums.
Another factor that contributes to the appeal of BLACK FIRES is its constantly ominous feel – created by its bass roars and subtly interweaving melodies – with the fact that so little is known about REAPER as an artist also likely adding to this sense of sinister mystery and intrigue.
One thing we DO know about the new REAPER 2023 Vocal Drum and Bass song, however, is that it is a wild, gradually intensifying track that is sure to shake you to your very core, particularly when the beat drops. In our opinion, this puts BLACK FIRES up there with some of the best heavy bass and emotional new Vocal / Melodic Drum and Bass that’s around today.
