We love supporting talented up-and-coming artists here at EKM, and the release of this new Melodic House-influenced track Carl GrünDot – Path supplies us with a perfect opportunity to do so.
There’s very little information around about this artist at the moment, but we do know that he suffers from insomnia and that it’s during these sleepless nights that the inspiration for his music strikes. He’s also got a varied range of musical influences, with the list of artists that have inspired him including British synth icons Depeche Mode, French House producer Kavinsky, and legendary American Electronica artist Moby. With Carl GrünDot – Path being the artist’s first-ever official solo release, however, we’re sure that there will be more information about him and his background appearing online once he puts out more music. In fact, he’s already released a second track titled DON’T WAVE GOODBYE, which you can check out right now on streaming sites like Spotify and Soundcloud.
Back to Path, though, is a track that takes GrünDot’s staple genre Melodic House and blends it with flavors of Electronica and Ambient music. It’s quite a mysterious track, giving nothing away within the first thirty seconds aside from a few ripples of textured atmospherics here and there. Gradually though – and rather cleverly – the track grows, slipping into a semi-ambient state as brief flurries of synth melody play over a distorted vocal sample. Everything starts to come together when the beat comes in, the textures that have been used tentatively throughout the track so far being united by a muted pulse and rhythms that are heavy on hi-hats. You could almost imagine the track being used for one of those time-lapse videos that shows a particular scene from sunrise right until sunset, with its evolving layers and subtle hints of light and dark.
In short, Carl GrünDot – Path is a beautiful, mellow track that’s perfect for life’s melancholic, transitory moments, created by an artist who quite clearly has heaps of potential.
