Tom & Collins’ Terms & Conditions Records presents Move Like That by San Diego-based producer and model Sam Blacky: a new dark and trippy House song that’ll soothe your ears with its Latin-American grooves covered by a warm blanket of tones and textures. The passionate track uses catchy vocal riffs and captivating melodies, accompanied by an extensive focus on movement to transmit some intimate late night vibes.

The rhythm on Move Like That may sound pretty simple on the first listen, especially given the fact that Sam Blacky introduces us to the track with a stripped drum machine pattern. But this is something that also helps to build the vibe of the song. Although the backbone of the track uses this pattern, once the listener gets into the groove, the very subtle percussive rhythms in the background give the new Sam Blacky song almost a psychedelic feel.

But the melodic component of Move Like That is as tricky and as full of subtleties as its rhythm. On the surface, it seems like Samantha Black tries to keep everything minimal: the emotionless, constant spoken-word refrain alternates with a dreamy trumpet sample, and that’s it. But as the listener gets more familiar with the track, they find a quiet arpeggio which Sam Blacky keeps morphing and adding movement to it with modulation and filtering.

The effect of this, especially when it interacts with the bass, is pretty similar to the “discovery” of the percussive layers of Move Like That – it gently messes with the listeners’ brain and makes them perceive the track from a new perspective. It’s the effect that many of the listeners of music released on Tom & Collins’ Terms & Conditions Records are surely well familiar with. And once Move Like That hits you with it, you realize that Sam Blacky’s decision to release it as her debut on the Mexico-based label was more than obvious.
