Cozy, yet bouncy and buoyant, the new Cloverdale & Eleganto song Looking Back will smoothly lure you into its groovy sonic landscapes, consisting of electrifying basslines, lush vocal and synth melody lines, as well as spacious pads. The high energy Tech/Bass House banger by the Canadian and Spanish producers is part of the eponymous EP via IN/ROTATION.
The combination of laid-back and highly stimulating vibes on Cloverdale & Eleganto – Looking Back makes the new song a perfect autumn soundtrack. Cloverdale, who appeared on IN/ROTATION’s House Music compilation Rotate Vol 5 in 2021 with a track titled Old School, showed a technical and innovative way to combine the retro styles of Tech/Bass House into a high energy banger that sounded like a peek into the world of the future of both genres.
Without a doubt, Cloverdale’s ambitious takes, regardless if they were being released as singles, within compilations or as remixes, were creating waves both, in the music-making community and on the dancefloors for quite a long time. Looking Back sounds like a record that’s summing up these explorations. The entire EP, including the title-track, has a focused sound that seems to be the sweetspot the Canadian producer found during years of experiments in the lab.
Much of the unique atmosphere on Looking Back seems to come from the way Cloverdale & Eleganto handle the space on the track. Without extensive usage of spatial processing, the track sounds intimate, mellow, and delightfully warm, while somehow avoiding being too in your face and claustrophobic. When described on paper, it may seem that the formula is easy to replicate. And, probably, many up-and-coming producers will try to do so. However, it’s not the mixing or production techniques, but the sense of style of Cloverdale & Eleganto that makes the new track so addictive and original.
