Diversity and versatility are qualities that have always been at the heart of what SolarPulse does as a DJ, producer, and artist. Born in Paris, he made his name performing at a number of the city’s most exciting clubs including Seven Spirits and Pigallion, mixing the genres of Bass Music, Techno, and House music to create a style that is truly his own. In 2022 he moved to Barcelona, and now he brings us his debut EP release, the SolarPulse – No Boundaries EP.
Comprising three tracks in total, the EP makes heavy use of powerful bass parts and rhythms. Opener Lips Like Roses for instance begins with an energising Techno beat and a repetitive, rubbery bassline, both of which are later offset by a high female vocal that evokes the sensitivity of the track’s title. Midway point Scp-049 takes a far more relentless stance, employing a tougher kick drum sound that slowly becomes surrounded by siren-like synths, fast-paced melodic inflections, and distorted, atmospheric vocal samples. Finally, there’s the closing track Don’t Stop, which almost sits somewhere between these two approaches. The airy, plaintive synth melody that begins after around a minute lends the song a sense of lightness and space that the first two tracks on the SolarPulse – No Boundaries EP lack; it’s also underpinned by a persistent mysterious feel, something created by the rattle of the song’s bassline and the incomprehensible words within the main sample.
The Parisian DJ has done himself proud with the SolarPulse – No Boundaries EP. All three tracks stand up well on their own, exhibiting a style of production that is slick and polished without eradicating the personality of the songs. Not only does the EP represent SolarPulse’s talents as a producer, but it also showcases the diverse, versatile aspect of his sound that helped him to make his name in the Paris clubs he originally played in.
