We know that inspiration for Electronic music comes from all sorts of places, but this is possibly the first time we have ever covered a track which was inspired by a coffee machine. The release in question is a Techno song called Coffee Bowl by Rob Ótico, and it memorably blends the sound of a Nespresso machine with bold Techno beats and raw, electrifying synths.
How Rob Ótico Built Coffee Bowl From a Coffee Machine and Singing Bowls
The track came about as the result of a retreat in Mallorca, where Ótico attended a sound healing session featuring Himalayan singing bowls. Later, while sharing a coffee, the sound of a Nespresso machine whirring suddenly caught his attention. Rather than dismissing it as background noise, he heard the beginnings of a synth line. That coffee machine sound, combined with recordings of the singing bowls, became the foundation of this new Techno track Coffee Bowl, resulting in a pretty perfect example of turning an everyday noise into something more.
Raw, Deep and Hypnotic Techno Designed to Open a Set
Rob Ótico – Coffee Bowl is an intriguing meeting of club pressure and multiple musical layers. The track takes its time in building up, allowing the rhythm to take hold before bringing in some of the more unusual textures. Once the song begins to expand, it settles into a deep, driving groove alongside throbbing bass and sharp electronic tones that steadily increase the tension. The track was conceived as a set opener, and you can hear why; it sets the tone immediately whilst gradually building up its distinctive sound.
Rob Ótico’s Return to DJing and Electronic Music
Ótico has been DJing since the late 1990s, building a name across Bristol and London before an accident in 2004 resulted in the loss of his right leg above the knee. He spent years away from the scene, but eventually returned to DJing and electronic music, rebuilding his career and performing alongside artists including John 00 Fleming, Heavy Hertz, Neurodriver, Render and Dickster. His current sets move between genres with a focus on deep basslines and explosive breakdowns, and this new Techno track Rob Ótico – Coffee Bowl fits neatly into that sound, while also showing that inspiration can come from the most unlikely of places.
