The new song KARMA by the US producer ROSSY and Jazz Cartier on HARD Recs is a savage amalgamation of Festival/EDM Trap energy with the wild sound design and groove of Future/Melodic Bass music in their 2022 state. Not subtle at all, KARMA hits you in the face with a seemingly mercurial set of rhythms and bass patterns right from the beginning, that, nevertheless, later become completely tamed under the creative vision of the artist.
ROSSY’s hybrid sounds epic even during its most chaotic moments. The producer pays equal attention to the rhythm and melody on the new song, however, with a strong accent on it leaning towards being able to make the listeners move. ROSSY starts her song with a trill that sounds like something in-between tonal percussion and orchestral string section. It’s perhaps one of the more peculiar releases in terms of sound design in 2022: as music keeps developing, more rhythmic and harmonic elements join the Festival/EDM Trap & Future/Melodic Bass song that are hard to put under one category.
However, what’s not hard to do while listening to the HARD Recs 2022 song KARMA with Jazz Cartier, is to get completely mesmerized by the way ROSSY keep introducing new rhythms and flips them on their heads bar after bar. As harsh and impactful as some parts of the release may sound, their effect on the brain is diametrically opposed to their sonic qualities. For some reason, the texture, and the intensity of KARMA, whether due to the fact that they overstimulate the brain and cause a sensory overload as a massive stream of rhythm and melody, or because of the careful EQing and mixing, result in an almost meditative sonic experience.
