The new Pretty Output and AN21 song is a bold, addictive slice of Deep Melodic and Afro House on SIZE records. The track is called Pretty Output & AN21 – Skogen, and as well as being an exceptionally produced, atmospheric single in its own right, it’s also been earmarked as the “centerpiece’ of the new Pretty Output – Something U Said EP, which is due for release on 1st December.
Perhaps Skogen’s most notable feature is the way it evolves gradually across its five-minute duration, making it a record that is pulsing with energy but which can also be played to soothe the mind and the ears; skittering percussion dances across glistening pools of synth melody, whilst the bassline grumbles away underneath like a creature carefully burrowing its way into the earth. As such, it’s a track that certainly lives up to its description of “a blend of storytelling and harmonious soundscapes that resonate with your core”, carrying the listener along on its gentle waves of rich electronics.
This new Pretty Output & AN21 song also undoubtedly meets the level of quality that we have come to expect from SIZE records, with two other exceptional releases from the label that we’ve covered recently including Idrissi’s Castlemorton and Matador’s remix of Alright. The artists involved in Skogen, meanwhile, are a little more diverse in terms of their existing track record – AN21 is a long-established Swedish DJ (whose brother Steve Angello actually founded SIZE), whilst Swedish duo Pretty Output are essentially at the beginning of their recording career, having released their debut single just a matter of weeks ago.
Irrelevant of the experience of its creators, however, Pretty Output & AN21 – Skogen is a brilliant example of Deep Melodic & Afro House on SIZE Records, and subsequently bodes well for the Pretty Output – Something U Said EP.
