Stranger (to Stability) was originally released by Dustin Zahn in 2009, but today we’re bringing you a remix by Milio Ruando that puts a fresh spin on the track while also updating it. This new version was in fact inspired by a previous remix of Stranger (To Stability) – the Len Faki Podium Mix that accompanied the original version of the record when it came out. In this sense, Ruando’s rework of the tune feels less like a total overhaul, and more like a nod to the track’s various iterations to date.
How Milio Ruando Reworks Stranger (To Stability)
Rather than stripping things back completely, this new version of Stranger (To Stability) by Milio Ruando builds on the foundation that was laid by Dustin Zahn and subsequently pushed forward by Len Faki. The groove here feels faster, tighter and more locked-in, with a low end that hits hard and fast without ever sounding too melodramatic or overblown. There is a cleaner, more spacious feel to the mix too; the synths have more room to breathe, which gives the track a slightly more hypnotic Techno edge compared to the rawer pulse and drive of earlier versions.
At the same time, the remix keeps that unmistakable tension the original Stranger (To Stability) by Dustin Zahn is known for. The signature pulse is still there, but it’s been subtly reshaped so it is a little more controlled and better tailored for modern dancefloors. There’s also arguably more going on in the finer details of the song. The percussion patterns feel sharper and more syncopated, whilst the hi-hats cut through the mix in a way that adds momentum rather than cluttering up the sound.
Overall, then, Milio Ruando’s remix of Stranger (To Stability) by Dustin Zahn lands somewhere between a homage to the Len Faki Podium Mix version and a refresh of the original. It’s familiar enough for its source material to be recognised instantly, but different enough to justify bringing it back into rotation.
