The old school ravers amongst you might well remember the track Emergency 911 by Prezioso and Marvin, which was released in 2000 on Time Records and features the iconic lyrics “This is the police speaking / this club is closed forever”. Now in October 2023, for a little bit of rave nostalgia, you can check out the new Marco Faraone rework of the song, which was reportedly inspired by the fact Emergency 911 was the track that sparked Faraone’s interest in dance music when he was just 12 years old.
Taking the peppy, danceable beats of the original and building upon them with heavy bass synths and repeated use of the original vocal samples, Marco Faraone – Emergency brings a more muscular, contemporary Techno sound to Emergency 911, in turn making it more powerful and punchy than ever before. Particularly notable are the handclap rhythms that work brilliantly alongside the original track’s other main vocal sample (“paging Dr. Beat” from Miami Sound Machine’s 1984 hit Dr. Beat) which together make for a Techno-inspired, upbeat foundation for the remix that drives it along for its four-minute duration.
Essentially, Faraone has brought this track straight into the 2020s, and by allowing his remix to lean on those iconic “this is the police speaking, this club is closed forever” lyrics, as well as a significant dash of highly appealing rave nostalgia, he has created a huge, thrilling Techno record that still manages to showcase his deep-seated love for the original song.
And if you now find that you can’t get enough of Marco Faraone after hearing his new rework of Emergency 911, why not check out some other tracks of his that we’ve written about in the past, including his Acid Techno collaboration with Stella Bossi called 3 Days Awake on Filth On Acid, and his intoxicating solo debut on Factory93 Records called Timeless.
