Indeed, Jewel Kid – Work wastes no time in establishing itself as an all-out banger, giving listeners just fifteen seconds of a relatively subtle introduction (featuring tension-building synths and a hi-hat-heavy rhythm) before giving way to an infectious Tech House beat and swirling, hypnotic synths. Listeners will also love the fun, slightly tongue-in-cheek vocal sample that tells us “you know what they say / you have to work”. Delivered by an enticing female voice, the sample soon becomes the key focus of Jewel Kid – Work, with the artist cleverly building further rhythmic and melodic layers around the sample as the track progresses.
Work really gets into its stride, meanwhile, by around the minute-and-a-half mark, settling into those simultaneously cool and energetic rhythms and rarely losing any hint of its appeal from hereon in.
