Blackadder is a Nottingham-based UK artist who specializes in music that “seamlessly blends the organic with the electronic”, taking influence from artists such as Bonobo, Maribou State and Caribou. His latest release, Blackadder – Ripple / Save Me, sees him bringing these influences together to wonderful effect, creating a fresh and immersive sound that sets him apart from many others making this kind of music right now. As such, it’s little surprise that his releases have already seen attention from both the Radio 1 and Capital radio stations in the UK, as listeners will surely agree once they have heard these tracks for themselves. Fans of the famous music blog Stereofox, meanwhile, will no doubt be interested to hear that this release has been put out on their record label of the same name, giving it that extra stamp of classiness and authenticity.
Ripple is the first track on the Blackadder – Ripple / Save Me release, and it is probably the more chilled out track of the two. There are bright rhythms and a relatively fast-paced tempo, but the gorgeous layers of atmospheric synthesizers and other production flourishes keep this track very much sitting in the Deep Melodic House genre, prioritizing lush chord progressions and intricate arpeggios over big, danceable beats. This is in comparison to Save Me, which is a much bolder, more soulful take on the Melodic House genre, while still bringing in elements of Electronica too. It’s the samples that really make this track, with the vocals and brass solo towards the end complementing the piano and the rhythms of the song exceptionally well.
All in all, Blackadder – Ripple / Save Me is likely to be one of the most accomplished Deep Melodic House releases you have heard for a long time. Combining lush electronics with soulful samples, lithe rhythms and atmospheric vibes, this is not a release you want to miss out on if you are a fan of the genre!
