You most likely already know Kush Kush & Sickmellow from their foot-stomping Electro Pop hit ‘Blacklight’ (if you don’t, check it out HERE first). Today, they’ve released the perfect party version of the track, the ‘Blacklight Club Mix’. If you thought the original couldn’t get any better; it can. Releasing a club mix in mid-January, in the midst of a pandemic might seem counter-intuitive. But make no mistake, once the clubs reopen, this track will be in a prime position on everyone’s set list. It’s not often you get this much talent on one track either. Kush Kush & Sickmellow are both production duos, and they’ve worked alongside the popular EDM vocalist Kazhi. The quintet is releasing this mix through the Berlin-based label Raison Music.
Kazhi, the featured vocalist, is still front and center on the new mix, but everything else has gotten a complete facelift. They have amped up both the pace and the energy. The fact that they’ve managed to change so much and so little at the same time is a testament to their skills in the studio. It’s undeniably the same song. But the ‘Blacklight Club Mix’ is full of Bass House vitality. Kazhi’s vocals are pitched down and sped up for the intro giving this mix a more menacing vibe. Elements of the original make an appearance and some new ones as well. The track swells to a crescendo and breaks into an epic, driving club banger.
Kush Kush & Sickmellow have kept the original bass synth but completely repurposed it. It ducks and weaves around a four-to-the-floor kick. Occasionally, the rhythm section yields for a bar of complex, catchy synth work before taking charge again. The Electro Pop feel of the original has been completely overwritten by some unapologetically Bass House vibes. This mix will sit right at home on Raison Music. Soon, we hope it will be right at home on a dance floor near you too.
