French-American producer Elegie is surely one of the most multi-talented up-and-coming artists on the EDM scene at the moment. Not only is she a doctorate-level scientist, but she’s also making a serious name for herself in the arena of Melodic Techno, having recently shared line-ups with the likes of Steve Aoki and Cristoph, and performed at numerous underground Techno hubs across the US, Mexico and Brazil. Her musical style could be described as ‘exploratory’, something that is likely inspired by her scientific background along with what the artist herself describes as her desire to celebrate “authenticity, creativity and uniqueness” in all its forms.
And if it’s some cold, hard evidence of this style you’re after, why not check out the artist’s new single Elegie – Neblina, which at its heart is one great big slice of invigorating peak-time Melodic Techno energy, stretching across five minutes and barely letting up the pace throughout. Crunchy percussion blends with a simple but effective bassline that is bound to shake the walls of any venue this track is played in, whilst delicate vocal samples and glassy synths add a more intricate edge to the track’s toplines.
As with many of this artist’s previous releases (including tracks like Infinite Wonder and her emotional remix of Röyksopp & Susanne Sundfør’s Running To The Sea, both of which we’ve covered on the blog in the past), Elegie – Neblina is both rhapsodic and atmospheric. The track’s title translates from Portuguese to mean ‘fog’, which is arguably why listening to it invokes thoughts of a late-night drive through the mist with a good friend, with the empowering ending maybe signifying the moment when the fog has lifted and you can see your final destination.
However you choose to interpret its meaning, Neblina is undoubtedly a hypnotic track infused with invigorating peak-time Melodic Techno energy, and as such is a track that fans of the genre – and of Elegie as an artist – are sure to enjoy.
