The more avid EKM readers amongst you might remember that we covered Switzerland-based artist 59 Perlen’s single The Worst Thing To Live Without earlier in 2023. Now we’ve finally got a release date for his hotly anticipated third album, 59 Perlen – Forget About The Music, which features The Worst Thing To Live Without as its opener along with seven other House, Minimal, Dubtechno and Ambient-infused tracks. The album is set for release on January 12th, 2024 through the diverse Minnesota label Shady Ridge Records, and will take listeners on a mesmerizing journey.
Along with The Worst Thing To Live Without, two further tracks have been selected as singles from 59 Perlen – Forget About The Music. These tracks are Swim To You and Horizon, both of which act as ideal advocates for the album with their deep, bass-heavy textures and shimmering melodic overtones. Album track Empire ramps this feeling up even more, starting as it means to go on with a funky, repetitive bassline and syncopated, atmospheric hisses before settling into a groove that continues on and off for the remainder of the song. Another highlight is the stunning Golden Glow, a bright and silky six minutes based around a restless, glossy synth that sounds as though its creator is running a long length of golden silk through his fingers.
In fact, the entirety of 59 Perlen – Forget About The Music invokes thoughts of golden hues – of long stretches of a beach at sunset, a long, sparkling gold necklace, or even a golden-hued sky on a summer evening. Everything about the album exudes a knowing, chilled-out kind of classiness, with each track melting from one to the next with what appears to be the greatest of ease. If you think that the genres of Ambient, House, Minimal, and Dubtechno music don’t go together – think again, because this album is about to prove you wrong.
