Murkury and Lavier – Worlds Collide EP is the explosive new 2024 experimental bass release that all lovers of the genre need in their lives. The EP features two original tracks, Worlds Collide and Final Approach, and finishes with a remix of Worlds Collide by guest producer Criso. One half of the duo behind the EP, Lavier, states that the release’s title comes from the fact you can hear both his and Murkury’s “artistic voices clearly in both tracks, but they come together as one in a really cohesive way”.
There’s certainly a distinctive artistic voice to be heard on the title track of the Murkury and Lavier – Worlds Collide EP, which kicks off the release with gritty bass riffs and an unusual, offbeat percussive feel. The track really gets into its stride at around the thirty-second mark, with a more solid rhythm being established and the bass parts becoming truly guttural. The second track, Final Approach, meanwhile, takes a slightly different stance to that of the title track, creating an atmospheric, almost enigmatic feel with low synth melodies that gradually evolve throughout its three-and-a-half minute duration, and a subtle bass part that prowls menacingly along. Criso’s remix of Worlds Collide brings another shot of energy for a final four minutes, altering some of the bass sounds used on the original version of the track and allowing some of the lighter, brighter melodies to shine through.
Apparently, Murkury and Lavier have known each other for nearly ten years, first meeting when they were living in the mountainous region of Western North Carolina and later becoming firm friends based on how the area shaped both them and their music. As the artists have acknowledged themselves, this long-term friendship really lends this 2024 experimental bass EP a feeling of cohesiveness, bringing together the artists’ different styles in a way that will excite and intrigue listeners. The Murkury and Lavier – Worlds Collide EP might be their first studio project together, but given this duo’s history, we can no doubt prepare to hear more releases from them in the future.
