MISS DRE – Foreign Love is a scorchingly hot slice of high-energy, driving Vocal Techno that is bound to please fans, old and new, of the Bay Area-born DJ. She describes her vibe as “sugar, spice, naughty and nice” (features which the new MISS DRE song also undoubtedly embodies), whilst the venues she’s played at and headlined in recent years – Concourse Project, Exchange LA and The Midway, to name just a few – almost reads like a list of must-visit underground music venues in North America. She has subsequently built up a reputation as a driven, dedicated and experienced artist that has led to her being chosen to support acts like Justin Martin, Kyle Watson, J. Worra, and many more.
Foreign Love, meanwhile, comes hot on the heels of a string of seven well-received solo singles MISS DRE released earlier in 2023. It begins with a mind-bending mix of an offbeat rhythm and a simplistic but catchy vocal hook that goes on to dominate the song, before expanding into a full-bodied Techno track with a pounding kick drum and pulsing bass line. A breakdown follows, but not for long, and you soon begin to realize that the strength of this track lies in its ability to hold its listener’s attention without having to rely on too many build-ups or changes in pace. By the end of the track, you’re reveling in the feeling of “ecstasy” that MISS DRE is singing about, and its cold ending leaves listeners feeling anything but.
All in all, this new MISS DRE song feels like a fresh and energizing take on high-energy, driving Vocal Techno. If you’re able to catch her live at any point in 2024, no doubt you’ll hear MISS DRE – Foreign Love get an airing – and probably an ecstatic reaction from the audience too.
