How did it all start for you?

It actually all started when I was sixteen years old. So, that’s eight years ago. I remember watching videos of Armin van Buuren and Tiesto performing in huge stadiums all around the world partying with thousands of people. I never knew that this scene and movement was that big at this time. After seeing all that, I started learning to produce music and basically started from scratch, since I wasn’t musically trained at all.

Who is your biggest inspiration / influence?

To me the no.1 source where I get my biggest inspiration from is really the music which is getting played on the radio. What’s so interesting about that is, that radio music always has this kind of commercial touch to it, which makes it super accessible for listeners no matter what genre it is. I think you can learn a lot from just analyzing the arrangements and sounds getting used on these radio tracks.

What do you consider to be the incisive moments in your career?

I think the remix that I did for James Arthur’s “Say You Won’t Let Go“ was definitely a key step for my career so far. With it being released and gaining several million streams a lot of other labels reached out to me asking for remixes. This project has literally opened the door for me to remix the likes of Clean Bandit, Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys and more!

What night out has been the most memorable for you? As a DJ and as an attendee?

Playing at Marquee New York was definitely one of my most memorable nights as a DJ. I remember being super nervous before the show cause I knew that this is one of the most famous and best clubs in the world. In the end it was an incredible night and the people really were into what I’ve played.

You always deliver a very well balanced sound between Pop and EDM, what pulled you towards that genre/sound?

I actually started producing more EDM type of music in the beginning, so I always was massively influenced by this kind of genre. Throughout the years I just realized that I want to set the focus more on the song as such and the melody than producing only EDM type of tracks where the instrumental is more in the foreground.

The Luca Schreiner sound is very versatile, it is club, radio and festival friendly, was that something you had in mind when you started producing that sound?

Yeah, definitely! Since I’m a DJ too, my tracks always have kind of a danceable element in it. Being a DJ also gives you a lot of insights on what sounds and arrangements really work for people and which doesn’t.

If you weren’t producing Pop/EDM, do you have any other genres that you would like to produce? And did you ever release songs in different genres?

Yes, I started producing more EDM kind of music in the beginning and had even put out several releases under a different name, which didn’t even performed too bad. I always love to test out producing new genres. I think that’s one of the keys in developing as a producer.

What genres of music do you listen to? Give us a few tracks that you’ve been hooked on lately.

I’m a big fan of radio music, so I always love to listen to new music that’s being played on the radio. I absolutely loved the latest Lewis Capaldi single as well as the new The Chainsmokers collaboration with Ty Dollar Sign and bülow.

What do you usually start with when preparing for a DJ set?

Usually I always check the location where I’m playing and the set time. Also it’s super helpful to check who is playing before and after you to make sure you’re not playing any of their records. Then I just scroll through promos and through Beatport & Soundcloud to check for new music that inspires me and fits my musical idea.

Who are you planning to remix next? Any songs on your radar that you would really like to remix?

I would absolutely love to remix a Chainsmokers song one day. I just love their song writing and would love to give them my take on one of their songs!

Who would you really like to work with on a track? And why?

Again, “The Chainsmokers“. I’ve been a big fan of their music since day one and even played a show with them here in Germany some time ago. They’re super nice guys!

If you could eternally be stuck in one year’s music scene, which year would it be?

I loved the 2000’s, since this was kind the time when I really started listening to music actively. Loved the jams during this time! 🙂

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?

One of my all time favorites is “Rock With You” by Michael Jackson. This is a track that just always gets me into a great mood.

Of all the places that you performed, do you have a favorite one? Why?

Definitely the main stage at last year’s “World Club Dome-The Winter Edition“. What a massive stage this was. Playing in a soccer-stadium was definitely a dream come true!

What are your plans for the near future and what do you want to focus on for 2019 and 2020?

In 2019  I really want to focus more on my own music! The past few years I did a lot of fantastic remixes that did great, but now the time has come to really focus back on my own music. There’s just so much new music in the making which I’m super excited about.

Can you give us a sneak peek of something you are working on?

Oh yes! There’s brand new music that came out on June 21st. It’s a song I did together with the boys from Scene Writers and René Miller, which is called “Favorite Stranger”! Definitely check this one out 🙂
