The stay on Earth continues for JLuna as his mission carries on to maintain his home planet’s culture in the face of an approaching black hole by mixing its sounds and atmospheres with Earthly Techno music. Now in its eleventh year on Earth, JLuna’s mission has to date produced dozens of songs stemming from five albums and a mix of fourteen singles and EPs. The latest release for JLuna just dropped amidst the holiday season with a two-track EP release titled To The Core. The songs on the release include the title track and another titled Open Mind. JLuna – To The Core combines Progressive House grooves with plenty of ear candy and entities on each track that will stay with you long after you listen to them.
Open Mind is the first track of the release and it immediately establishes its substance that will stick with you in its looping rhythmic voiceovers that are present for most of the track. The voiceovers are combined with a deep and thumping kick drum and a simple trance-like melody from an oscillating synth lead. A throbbing and sliding bassline also joins in which will make your feet move. Along with an infectious house drum groove, the intensity of Open Mind gets turned up another level with an added popping doumbek drum providing auxiliary rhythms.
The song To The Core has a foundation of a plucked synth bass motif over tranquil pulsing synth pads. Like Open Mind, To The Core features a simple house groove with a mix of tribal auxiliary percussion and a deep thumping kick drum. The mind-etching factor of To The Core comes from a repeating flute motif with otherworldly textures which you will find yourself trying to reproduce by whistling. While the mission was to maintain his home planet’s culture, the reception of JLuna’s musical creations has been well received here on Earth emanating from the catchiness of his music. JLuna – To The Core is further proof that the stay on Earth may exceed the mission as we Earthlings can’t get enough of this music as it has also become part of our culture.
