Bassrush Recs’ exciting chain of releases continues with a new JEANIE & TINYKVT song from the LA based producer’s new Devil Dance EP. Being one of the heavy hitters from the latter, JEANIE – From My Grave (ft TINYKVT) takes the listener into the digital world infested by the mysterious forces of occult.
Although JEANIE’s interest in the occult is well-known to any fan of her music, with this particular release her cybergothic aesthetics gain a whole new layer of consistency and put the artist’s idiosyncrasy to a new level both, stylistically, and in terms of quality. JEANIE mobilizes every element of the track to be as kinetically impactful as possible, while TINYKVT’s vocals play out as the vulnerable opposition to them. The latter are a nice throwback to some nu metal and alternative acts from the 2000s.
However, JEANIE’s production leaves no chance to nostalgia. And, to be honest, it shouldn’t come as a surprise, given the fact that it’s a Bassrush Recs release. The contrast between the instrumental and the vocals is uncompromising on JEANIE – From My Grave (ft TINYKVT). There’s nothing to put in-between the sounds generated by the vocal cords of a human being and purely digital signals. But those two components somehow are not repelling each other. Even on the opposite, the machine-like intertwines with the humanness on the drop, making it probably the most impressive part of this new JEANIE & TINYKVT song.
One may argue that this is the perfect sonic representation of the tech-occultism that’s hinted on the visual part of the JEANIE – Devil Dance EP. What’s certain is the fact that it’s a release that consolidates all the strong sides of JEANIE’s production. And while it’s a great demonstration of the potential, a full-length work might be an ideal next step for the artist.
