Insomniac‘s new catchy & infectious release titled Sway is packed with bassy sorcery by HoneyLuv, one of the LA’s distinct voices in Tech House music, and sprinkled with a groovy performance by the Canadian singer & songwriter Dope Earth Alien to give the song dancey and enchanting vibes. With some 80s Old School Hip Hop energy on the beat and the flows, it’s also a dancefloor-ready banger with cutting edge production choices awaiting the listeners behind every bar.
Although HoneyLuv tries to avoid unnecessary sophistication on the instrumental to put more focus on the groove, and Dope Earth Alien doesn’t make lyricism the central part of her performance, Sway does not sound simple in any of its parts. The amount of layers that go into building the pendulating groove of the track alone can compete with entire albums by less skilled producers. And, while we never get to hear all of them happening simultaneously, their even distribution throughout the track is a tedious arrangement task which the new HoneyLuv & Dope Earth Alien Tech House song handles perfectly.
After introducing the drums, HoneyLuv brings in a sequence of tribal percussion that becomes the backbone upon which Dope Earth Alien builds her flow while the producer keeps transforming its timbre and tone. Once the listener is fully bewitched, there’s no need to add anything else to the song. And since all the layering is stretched out through the length of the track, Sway has some polished minimalistic style to it that’s really hard to replicate if one tried to make an instrumental that would compliment the Canadian singer’s performance melodically. And even if it was possible, the vibes on Sway, that merry the atmosphere of 80s party Rap with some catchy & infectious House music, are certainly impossible to reproduce by anyone else but HoneyLuv.
