We’re back EKM readers – and today we’re bringing you an excellent selection of new releases within the Drum and Bass genre. The six tracks we’ve got lined up really stand out in the modern DnB scene, not only for their distinctive twists on the genre, but also because of the inventiveness and creativity of the artists behind them. The tracks in question are Metathesis: 101 by HD-4884, Modestep – Different (Artino Remix), RED FLAG by Emporio and Drum Dad & Bass Boy, So Good – Hot (Niall T Remix), Jake Shepherd – Running and Rock You by Disaszt and Coppa.

First up on our list is Metathesis: 101 by HD-4884 via the label Ctrl: Database Research, a producer who is also well-known for his mind-blowing videos. Musically, the track is every bit as experimental as his visual work, combining intricate percussion with distorted textures and powerful low-end. Rather than relying on a straightforward dancefloor formula, HD-4884 creates a constantly shifting soundscape, with detailed layers of sound giving the track a dark, futuristic vibe. The contrast between its tight rhythmic programming and more abstract sonic elements makes it particularly interesting, demonstrating how DnB can incorporate influences from IDM, Neuro, and cinematic sound design. The result is an intense and immersive track that rewards close listening, but that will also sound epic being blasted out of a pair of speakers.

Another excellent recent release from the world of Drum & Bass is the Niall T remix of Hot by So Good. This remix shifts the track towards a more recognizable D&B framework, with clipped breakbeats and a bassline that gives the verses a heavier sense of movement. The drums stay pacy throughout without crowding the memorable vocal, while the production leaves plenty of space around the hook before bringing the bass-drive back into focus. Niall T also adds more tension between the vocal-led sections and the instrumental passages, giving the arrangement a stronger sense of ebb and flow than a straightforward club edit.

Another epic Dancefloor DnB release that has come out recently is Running by Jake Shepherd. Rather than relying on a huge, overworked arrangement, Shepherd keeps the focus on momentum, with the central vocal hook returning to drive the track through its sections. It makes for a clean balance between punchiness and melody, ensuring that Running will appeal to fans of DnB, Dancefloor-oriented Pop, and many genres in between.

This version takes the track into darker, more bass-heavy territory, with a sharper rhythmic drive and plenty of weight behind the drops. Artino keeps the vocal and melodic elements recognizable, but surrounds them with tougher drums and more forceful low end. It’s a remix that feels built for the dancefloor, giving Different a distinctly heavier DnB edge without completely losing the feel of the original.

There is a strong sense of tension throughout the song too, with a bold and infectious vocal by Emporio and effects helping to build momentum between sections. Most importantly, the song’s arrangement avoids predictability, keeping the energy moving by changing textures and dynamics. In short, RED FLAG is a great example of producers taking familiar DnB ingredients and reshaping them into something fresh.

Finally, Rock You from Disaszt and Coppa brings a more direct energy to our selection today. Released on Mainframe Recordings, the track combines a driving DnB rhythm with the powerful male vocal, creating a strong connection between the lyrical and instrumental elements. The bass has plenty of presence, while the drums maintain a forceful groove that gives the track its momentum.
