When you hear the dark and epic cinematic Melodic Techno & House music created by Toulouse artist Aalson, it will probably come as no surprise that one of his great passions is film music. Many of his recent releases – including the Rêver EP, Failure, and his collaboration with Minorah entitled Last One – also reflect this, featuring dramatic melodies, room-shaking beats, and palpable feelings of tension as their centerpieces, which often make the listener feel as though they’re hearing a soundtrack of a new action or thriller film rather than simply a Techno track. It doesn’t look like he’s about to change his style any time soon either, with his new release Aalson – Elevation featuring all the hallmarks of his recognizable sound within its five-and-a-half-minute duration.
Released on revered Melodic Techno label Sinners, listening to Aalson – Elevation is nothing less than a rollercoaster ride, its rich palette of sounds and cinematic, grandiose feel culminating in an evocative track that hooks you in from the start. Perhaps its most distinctive feature is the way it slowly and steadily builds in pace and anticipation, beginning with a grumbling bass synth and some subtle chords that gradually increase in volume before melting away again. Then there’s the introduction of a full-bodied House rhythm, which in turn gives way to a number of mysterious synth melodies that twist and curl around each other to create a dark, brooding atmosphere. Finally, at around three minutes we reach the climax of the track, which the artist himself describes as a “unified army of sounds” reaching its most exciting point in the form of a “divine break with rich strings and choirs”. It’s this point that proves the extent of Aalson’s talent as a producer of powerful electronic music that has the ability to make your heart race.
It should also be noted that alongside news of the release of Aalson – Elevation comes another exciting announcement – Aalson has reportedly played an important part in organizing the first Sinners showcase event, which will take place at venue Le Bikini in his home city of Toulouse. The event will no doubt host some of the best dark and epic cinematic Melodic Techno & House music artists around at the moment, so if you’re a fan of this style it’s definitely not something you’ll want to miss out on!
