Ross K released the song ‘Lovesick’ just three months ago, and it captured the imagination of his friend and producer Epokhé. It’s not difficult to see why either. The original track from the London-based composer and producer is as mystical as it is melancholic. The fast steady kick drum throughout is so subtle it works more like a metronome. It has the pace of Techno but the mood of Ambient. The layering of dreamy, melodic elements gives this track its huge remix potential. And that’s exactly what’s happened in this new Epokhé music.
Epokhé is a producer based in Brooklyn, NY. His music is usually a bit more beat-driven but it’s still decidedly Experimental. In listening to ‘Lovesick’, he decided that he could use its pace to make something more uplifting and energetic. He cuts up the vocal by Ross K and offsets it with the kick drum to create a hypnotic pushing and pulling effect. Interestingly, the original does the same but with instrumental parts. The track swells in intensity as the layers are introduced. More percussive elements add to the rich texture before ebbing away for the bridge. However, there’s no real drop and no discernible climax. This piece is more of a holistic experience than just another track.
Although this new Epokhé music is a Techno track by definition, it breaks so many conventions. The structure and the direction of the track are unexpected and that’s part of what makes it so good. This ‘Lovesick’ remix manages to sit in contrast with the original but maintains its melancholia and its sense of loneliness. Both Epokhé and Ross K are on opposite sides of the Atlantic ocean but they still managed to come together on this track, and we hope for many more in the future. Even a pandemic can’t stop the music!

Epokhé is a composer and electronic music producer born in Canada and based in New York City. He spent his college years studying philosophy, music technology, and sound recording. The influence of both his acoustic and electronic background is evident in the complex sonic textures he creates. His latest track is a remix of Ross K – ‘Lovesick’. In 2017, he launched his solo electronic project and began DJ’ing in the Montréal club scene. In 2019 he began his mark in the film industry by working with academy award-winning composer Howard Shore. Here he has served as a musical sound designer and programmer, creating unique elements to accompany Shore’s music. In addition to his music, Epokhé has been building interactive immersive sound installations. They allow users to interact with music in ways never before seen.
