UK-born electronic music producer Retro Kid, aka Jake Juba, unveiled his delightful new Chillout meets Future Garage single You're so good.

The inspiration brought on by watching an 18-month-old experience the joy of tasting a banana for the first time has led to the latest chillout track from UK-born but currently Copenhagen-based producer Retro Kid. Looking to recreate the bliss observed by his son devouring that banana, Retro Kid set out to do so in the way he knows best, through music. You’re so good was the final product and the song is a pleasurable and light-hearted journey of adding fun layers of sound and melodies throughout it. You’re so good can act as an uplifting song for folks who are already in a jubilant mind frame or for those who are looking to turn their frown upside down.

Retro Kid – You’re so good is built upon a piano matched with wavering saw wave synth two-chord progression and an irregular looping chillout drum groove. While the drum groove is in 4/4 time, the rushed second beat from the snare drum makes it hard to settle into, yet, it is not distracting but more so it mobilizes the track. As a deep kick drum quickly replaces the dry kick drum from the introduction, the focus then falls on a repeated filtered vocal drop proclaiming “You’re so good”. Next, a mind-etching melodic and filtered vocalization takes over the focus as the groove drops out leaving just a piano accompanying the voice. An upward-moving synth whistle makes way for the groove to drop again following the break for the melodic vocalizations as the “You’re so good” voice drops alternate with the recently established vocalized melody.

Next, more ear candy is added into the rotation of focuses including a single-note piano motif as well as a grand Doo-Wop style chorus harmonically vocalizing “ooo wha ooo”. The final building block at the climax of the track is a rich saxophone playing a counter melody to all the various building blocks. On top of recreating a musical experience of his son’s love for eating bananas, Retro Kid has also captured it in video form with the release of the official music video for You’re so good which can now be streamed on YouTube. Retro Kid – You’re so good has left us feeling upbeat and you will find that its many festive layers will be stuck in your head post listen and keeping you in a happy mood.
