Warehouse Techno to Cosmic Ambient: Plasma drops Inperimental

INPERIMENTAL by Plasma fuses warehouse Techno & cosmic Ambient across a 9-track analog-digital journey. Out now on vinyl & digital formats!

The Lithuanian duo of Saidas Blistrabas and Darius Vaičiulis were key contributors to the mid to late 90s rave scene under their project Plasma. Powered by two albums in Plug And Play from 1996 and Microworld from 1997, Plasma’s music found fruition from their blend of Ambient, Trance, Acid, and Techno genres while using early computer production techniques combined with analog synthesizers. Following a lengthy hiatus, Plasma began producing together once more in 2023, and have so far produced four new singles as well as a vinyl reissue of the classic Microworld album. For 2025, the reunion of Plasma takes its next step with a new album release titled Inperimental. The album was produced with Blistrabas based in Chicago while Vaičiulis remained in Vilnius, Lithuania. Plasma – Inperimental continues that same mix of computer production now with the aid of modern plugins while continuing their reliance on vintage synthesizers and unique ambiences for the album.

Alpine Mindbloom is the opening track on Inperimental, and it displays how well Plasma blends genres. The track takes you from ambient throat singing into a House groove where the intensity builds and culminates in the track’s final two minutes with the drop of an acidic bassline accompanied by powerful pulsing ambiance full of layers of moving ear candy.

You will find on Inperimental that the tracks Probe, and Ocealux also feature the same valley-to-peak style of song composition that Plasma portrays so well, making these tracks perfect for the rave scene.

Following Alpine Mindbloom on the album is the track titled Rubber Duck. It is heavy with synthesizers as a playful lead sequence that is present for most of the track interacts amongst newly introduced breakdown sequences and classic big beat fills.

Rubber Duck is followed on the album by the track Discovery which was one of the singles released early into the reunion. It takes you on a trancey space shuttle journey full of mind-etching repeated patterns and consistent booming bass and kick drum patterns.

Ventilator continues the trancey vibes on the album like Discovery as a repeating bouncing bassline fights for the spotlight alongside a fast-paced and maniacal moving sequence that briefly takes on all of the focus until the bassline wins it back and takes the track out to its hypnotic completion.

The song Plastic Ping features a spirited, high-frequency moving sequence that takes center stage and holds the audience’s attention as this sequence will not yield its spotlight to anything.

The track titled DNA is an entertaining sonicscape with its warm bassline and pitched percussion accompaniments. At the track’s midpoint, the acoustic pitched percussion accompaniments are replaced with synthetic instruments, keeping the same rhythm while giving the listener a feeling of being trapped in a digital world before satisfyingly breaking free as the acoustic pitch percussion accompaniments return to lead the track to its completion.

With the release of the Inperimental album, we can deem the very welcome and long-awaited reunion of Plasma a success, as it displays that their music can continue to put you in that same zone as it did back in the 90s.
