Echo of Essence is the stunning new Deep House album from producer, composer and live performer Mees Dierdorp. Taking three years to make and encompassing several styles of minimal House music, this 11-track release is one to keep an eye on over the coming months.
Mees Dierdorp – Echo of Essence Frames a Human Conversation
The album is spacious and organic, with Dierdorp allowing grooves, melodic details and atmospheric textures to develop gradually rather than relying on big, obvious peaks. Decent Conversation embraces the album’s reflective side, while Jewel Being the End and Rare Advert bring a bright but understated electronic pulse. The more contemplative nature of the release reflects the fact that it looks to explore the fundamental elements of human connection, such as good conversation, as well to spark deep conversations about that which makes us human in the first place.
Deep House, Organic Textures and Electronica Without Fixed Borders
Rather than staying within a single House sound, Dierdorp moves between Deep House, Organic House, melodic minimalism, and more experimental electronic textures. Songs like Shape a Perspective and Storm from Below demonstrate this broader palette, balancing restrained rhythmic movement with layered, atmospheric sound design. Elsewhere, the influence of artists like Nils Frahm, Kiasmos, Rampue and Acid Pauli shines through, bringing together electronic rhythms, multi-layered textures, and contemplative melodies. It is a sound Dierdorp has developed since launching MEES Records in 2012, subsequently taking his music from the Amsterdam underground to stages including Glastonbury, DC10 Ibiza, DGTL and Fusion Festival.
How Lucebert and Marc Daniel van Biemen Help Shape the Album
The electronic framework of Mees Dierdorp – Echo of Essence has an unusual acoustic and poetic dimension to it too. Light of the Foundling features words from Dierdorp’s grandfather, poet Lucebert, while first violinist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Marc Daniel van Biemen contributes to the expansive title track.
From the deeper pulse of Circuit of Men through to the closing Screen for the Blinds, with Echo of Essence Mees Dierdorp has created a Deep House album that feels immersive and meaningful, lingering long after the final note fades as a result.
