Kroyan – Yekaye is the brand new single from Edgar Kroyan, the producer, composer and musical performer who is also part of the Ethno House group DUDUBEAT, and who is well-known in the House scene for his deep and inviting tracks. This latest release brings some serious Afro House vibes, blending pulsating Afro rhythms with ethereal vocals to create a refreshing and exciting musical journey.
“I tried to convey the pulse and at the same time the lightness of the track” says the artist of Kroyan – Yekaye, adding that “the synthesizers add freshness, and the vocals make the composition unusual”. There is certainly a fresh and unusual edge to this release, with much of it dominated by a hypnotic rhythm section that persists throughout the track’s six-minute duration. At first, these rhythms are very much built around the solid throb of a kick drum, before some more Afro-flavored percussive elements are brought in to add some additional depth. But by the end, the rhythmic layers have been built up to a significant extent, and work perfectly in tandem with the track’s subtle but electrifying synth melodies.
Elsewhere, the track’s vocal samples ensure that the listener’s attention is held throughout, with the entrancing female vocal neither dominating nor hiding behind the instrumentation. In the song’s sparser moments, meanwhile, when the vocal samples and rhythms are pulled back, the song almost becomes an ambient soundscape, showcasing Kroyan’s talents for blending multiple genres into one track.
“I work every day” admits Kroyan, “and I believe that it is necessary to experiment in music and that music has no boundaries”. Kroyan – Yekaye is certainly a fantastic showcase for the artist’s boundary-less vision of music, with its mix of deep rhythmic elements and subtle but effective synths giving it an inviting, transcendental feel that both new and pre-existing fans of the artist are sure to love.
