Even though the title of k?d‘s new emotional Wave / Trap (EDM) banger (ft Cecilia Gault) is THREE IN THE MORNING, the energy it radiates is as bright as daylight. With deadly currents of bass and passionate vocals, the new k?d & Cecilia Gault song is a great soundtrack for spicing up late night parties with some fresh grooves.
The hazy, ever-mutating and morphing chopped sample k?d uses as an arpeggio on THREE IN THE MORNING (ft Cecilia Gault) is not radically different from the one on FLOW IN YOU, another banger featuring June One released by the American musician earlier this spring. However, that’s where all the similarities between the two songs end. The new k?d & Cecilia Gault song has an entirely different approach to the arrangement, structure, sound design and even, in some cases, mixing.
Where the earlier release was using Trap-influenced percussion, muscular 808s, and EDM-like buildups, THREE IN THE MORNING pushes forward the much softer, less distorted sound design on synths, and paves the road for gorgeous vocals by Cecilia Gaults with a rolling reese bass that sounds like it comes directly from an early UK Garage track.
The genre-bending nature of the new release, however, doesn’t at all make THREE IN THE MORNING less entertaining. It could be that, at least partially, that this is thanks to the outstanding production and mixing, that squeezes the most out of the Pop-elements introduced by Cecilia Gault and adapts them to the emotional Wave / Trap (EDM) sound k?d is known for. Dynamically flawless and refreshingly diverse, THREE IN THE MORNING sounds like another leap forward for one of the fastest evolving talents on the scene.
