John Dahlbäck is a prominent Swedish House producer who has had releases on some of the biggest labels like Ultra, Armada and Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak, to name just a few. If you’re not familiar with him then you might know him by one of his many other stage names. New John Dahlbäck music never fails to impress. Since his first album ‘Mutants’ back in 2010, he’s been helping to define and change the sound of House music. 11 years later and he’s still doing just that, which speaks volumes about his energy, his dedication and also his musical ability. John Dahlbäck – Void is a perfect example of all three of these goals.
‘Void’ begins with an arpeggiated melody that sits crystal clear in the mix. It’s joined by a soft female vocal and some washed-out keys. Some rhythmic elements and a distorted synth make their way from somewhere in the background to the foreground. They usher in an early Techno-inspired drop, which at first is a surprise. But it actually subsides and becomes a far more minimal and intimate affair than the first 16 bars indicate. The vocals and keys return to give this track more of a Melodic House vibe. John Dahlbäck – Void is a song of three parts. The middle section is ambient, hazy and weightless. This sits in stark contrast with the beginning and end sections. All of the melodic elements from the first drop disappear in the second, leaving an unforgiving minimal Techno groove.
This new John Dahlbäck music is out now and it’s a fantastic representation of how an artist can continually innovate whilst keeping in step with the scene. Few producers have the ability to stay completely relevant for such a long time. John Dahlbäck manages to find time to write amazing music. Check him out on Spotify and SoundCloud to hear more!
