“You may notice we like to fuse the familiar with the fresh” say Deeptrak and Mark Dedross of their collaborative output from the last few years. Their most recent single, Deeptrak & Mark Dedross – The Truth (ft Mary Lova) meanwhile, is no different; heavy grooves, rhythmic piano and bright strings reminiscent of classic ‘70s material dominate the track, whilst the “fresh” element stems from the undeniably House-centric beats and feel-good rhythms that pervade throughout. This combination results in a track that fans of Disco, Funk or House music are sure to fall in love with at first listen, and furthermore a track that’s perfect for the upcoming summer and festival season.
Taking a deeper dive into the song and its funky vibes, The Truth starts off strong, with some inspired production ensuring that the groovy, distinctive bass tone and Lova’s reverb-drenched vocals come to the forefront. After an atmospheric build up, the song gives way to elated, rhythmic House piano and some soulful vocal ab-libs, before the simple but effective beat comes in and things really start to get moving. From here, The Truth is gradually boosted with twinkling synths, celebratory lyrics (“let’s get by in the groove / nothin’ but the truth”) and deeper rhythms. As such, it’s quite appropriate that the track has been released on the Bobbin’ Head Music label, as it will have you bobbing your head, tapping your feet and dancing along in no time.
If you can’t get enough of this version of Deeptrak & Mark Dedross – The Truth (ft Mary Lova), meanwhile, have no fear. The three artists have put together an EP of four songs, collecting this track, an extended version of it and two remixes, one of which has been dubbed “oozing with sunshine”.
In short, if you’re on the hunt for a feel-good track for the summer that will keep you, your mates and any guests happy, make sure that The Truth is on your list.
