Bronze Whale, the duo of Aaron Jaques and Benny Alley, released earlier this year a collaborative single called Blooming with New York DJ and producer Martron. Blooming is an exquisite single that features some chilled-out beats and notably emotive lyrics (“We’re in bloom / watched you hold your breath and enter the room / as if words were only left to undo”). Now the trio has released the exciting new Blooming Remixes EP, which features both a Soft Jaw remix and a Martron remix, remixes that take us back to old-school Future Bass, Trap, and Dubstep music flavors, alongside contributions from four other artists.
First up is Blooming (Soft Jaw Remix). Soft Jaw is actually Benny Alley’s solo project, so it’s no wonder he’s tackled this remix with such evident care and vigor, bringing some slower-paced, more nostalgic vibes to the track with what he describes as “lush synth work, choppy samples, and heavy 808”. Alley also sang the vocals on the original track, so it’s great to hear how they’ve been accentuated and drenched in reverb for this remix.
Then there’s Blooming (Martron Remix), which again comes from one of the track’s three original creators. Where Soft Jaw looked to the past sounds of Future Bass and Trap music for the inspiration for his remix, Martron took it to the early mid-2010 Dubstep sound by injecting some seriously heavy drops, intoxicating low-end and melodic piano parts.
As much as we love the original Bronze Whale and Martron version of Blooming, it’s also really interesting to hear some different versions of it from other artists, particularly in relation to how they deal with the track’s stunning lyrics. Aside from the Soft Jaw remix and the Martron remix that we’ve covered here, make sure to also check out the contributions from Very Yes, Jet Horns, Poles, and Malvae.

Bronze Whale – Blooming Lyrics:
Watch me drift away and not even move
As the water spilled into the bathroom
Isn’t it lovely
We’re in bloom
Isn’t it quiet
Next to you
Fall asleep and not make a sound
Afraid if we made noise we’d be found
But
Isn’t it lovely
Isn’t it lovely
Isn’t it lovely
Isn’t it lovely
We’re in bloom
Watched you hold your breath and enter the room
As if words were only left to undo
Isn’t it lovely
We’re in bloom
Feeling is quiet
Without you
So try your best to not make a sound
Afraid to say the things we feel now
But
Isn’t it lovely
We’re in bloom
We’re in bloom
We’re in bloom
Oh oh oh
Isn’t it lovely
Isn’t it lovely
Isn’t it lovely
Isn’t it lovely
Isn’t it lovely
Isn’t it lovely
We’re in bloom
