Willaris K. and his track Cobaki Sky (Prequel) received some special sonic treatment by none other than Joris Voorn. This new Joris Voorn remix is featured on the outstanding album #GU43 Rotterdam Unmixed. Global Underground music in 2020 has been eclectic, ranging from Balearic ambiences to all out Techno. This new Joris Voorn remix leans towards the latter but still has an ethereal quality to it. Meanwhile, he’s also put out other remixes this year, for artists like Elderbrook and The Editors. He’s also been busy with original tracks for the #GU43 Rotterdam Unmixed album, such as the blissfully amazing Nea Skioni, which you can read about and listen HERE. After so many years on the scene, Joris Voorn shows no sign of stagnating or being any less adventurous with his music.
The original track by Willaris K. is devoid of drums. However, a beat is what drives this new Joris Voorn remix. There’s a clean, punchy kick that holds the track’s pace throughout. Some trademark Joris Voorn atmosphere fills the gaps, ever so slightly ducking from the beat. Like a lot of Global Underground music (and Willaris K. music), this track has a really distinctive vibe. It’s quite unassuming to start, but over the course of several minutes it becomes more sinister. The track never drops, instead it evolves. Voorn carefully introduces new elements. They arrive frequently enough to maintain interest but never so suddenly that they break the flow. It’s so hypnotic that you lose track of time while listening. After a while, the bass becomes the dominant feature. A slowly intensifying reverb adds drama and intrigue to the surrounding elements.
On this track, we’re given the best of Joris Voorn and of Willaris K. The remix maintains the suspense of the original but gives it new life and new purpose. That purpose being that you can dance to it. We look forward to hearing this in sets and soon (hopefully), on the dance floor as well.
