Tamer Sağcan Expands Cinematic Worlds on Home: Universes

There are many cases throughout history in which musical adaptations of literature have been created, but rarely is it the literature’s own author who creates its musical universe. Turkish author, composer, and classical guitarist Tamer Sağcan has accomplished that and continues to do so with the release of his new album of cinematic neoclassical music titled Home: Universes.

Home: Universes is the second chapter of a musical trilogy by Sağcan that is based on his Eleyrrha Universe, a saga of 19 books combining various forms of mythology in a Sci-Fi setting. Between both the previous musical chapter Home: Roots EP, and now the new Home: Universes album, Tamer Sağcan has represented his Eleyrrha saga musically with a modern approach of human and AI entities, as his classical guitar performances are combined with AI orchestration. The results from this music compositional approach have created an ambient, neoclassical post-rock representation of the saga that was conceived exactly as Sağcan sees fit with the tools he has available to him.

Why Home: Universes Stands Out in Cinematic Neoclassical Music

Home: Universes opens with the track Enterstellar and immediately establishes the crisp and warm tone from Sağcan’s classical guitar that acts as the narrator throughout the album’s instrumental musical journey. Its opening melody elicits the emotion of longing for something, whether it is better days ahead or things to return as they once were. At its midway point, the track takes on a more adventurous tone as a new brisk melody is introduced while accompanied by powerful drones and percussive slaps of the guitar.

The album’s sixth track, titled Event Horizon, ranks at the top of our favorite space-themed classical guitar songs alongside View From Space by harp guitarist Muriel Anderson. The upbeat fingerpicking of the guitar over the ambient orchestrations in Event Horizon well represents the motion of a black hole as viewed from the outside. Like Enterstellar, Event Horizon reaches a dramatic turning point in which bass drones are again added alongside percussive slaps representing perhaps a transition point as the gravity begins to pull you in on a path to singularity.

Each track from the Tamer Sağcan Home: Universes album continues the musical journey of Eleyrrha, and like its books, this cinematic, sci-fi, ambient, and neoclassical album with post-rock influences is designed to be experienced from start to finish. Home: Universes is now available to be streamed in full, along with the musical saga’s first chapter Home: Roots EP, as we await its next and final chapter to be released.
