The new Sherm x Smith & Sorren Tech House music roller on LOW CEILING was released a few days ago, and we’re already loving it! The track is called Sherm x Smith & Sorren – Jet Life, and it’s as deep, groovy and hypnotic as you might expect from these two artists.
Jet Life starts off by establishing its rolling rhythm section, which comprises a simple but steady bassline alongside a four-to-the-floor kick drum and accentuated hi-hats. These parts of the song remain virtually unchanged throughout, giving Jet Life a solid bass to build on as the track progresses. Another vital part of the track is its subtle hints of keyboard melody; these are cleverly designed to sound reminiscent of the announcement tone that you might hear when travelling on an airplane, and when coupled with the spoken-word vocal sample of flight attendants giving instructions to passengers, it really emphasizes the track’s unique concept.
As a Tech House music roller, Sherm x Smith & Sorren – Jet Life places less emphasis on big build-ups and drops, and more on retaining its pulsing bassline and mesmeric rhythms. According to the artists themselves, this “sets the stage for a listening experience that feels both vintage and cutting-edge”, and we are inclined to agree; few people who hear this new Sherm x Smith & Sorren Tech House music roller on LOW CEILING will be able to deny that Jet Life retains both modern and retro elements, resulting in an overall feeling of timelessness.
If you’re not already familiar with the two artists involved in this record, meanwhile, you’d do well to check out some of their other material; Sherm is a Chicago-based DJ and producer who has also been making waves as an A&R rep at Hood Politics records, whilst Smith & Sorren are a New York duo who have gained the support of big-name DJs including David Guetta. Jet Life marks the first time these artists have collaborated, but with its hypnotic rhythms and infectious groove, we certainly hope it won’t be the last.
