Only a few days ago, the latest music project from the city of Groningen, The Netherlands was revealed, in the form of a brand new DnB music project by Nik Roos (Noisia / Sleepnet) and Jasper Scholma (Former). The project is called ring noord, and with its focus on raw, rave-inspired euphoria and experimental sound design, it’s a name you’re probably going to be hearing a lot about over the next few months. Roos and Scholma have launched their new act with their debut single, ring noord – Wild Flowers, and given that it has racked up over 50k listeners on Spotify alone over the course of a matter of days, it’s not a track that you will want to miss out on hearing!
Perhaps the most distinctive element of ring noord – Wild Flowers, is the way in which the duo use the song to give that familiar EDM sound a brand new twist, by deconstructing and then reconstructing typical elements of the sound in a new way. The track brings in musical elements from numerous different genres, for instance – bold breakbeat drums, hardcore Drum and Bass rhythms, deep Jungle basslines – whilst using experimental synth textures and bold, punchy production to lend the track cohesion.
Another distinctive element of the record is its ethereal, melodic vocal lines, which come courtesy of Scholma’s sister Asa. Her angelic voice really brings a human touch to the song, giving listeners some emotion to cling onto among the dancefloor-ready breakbeats and fiery stabs of synth.
“Ring Noord is more than just a new act – it’s an artistic movement”
Reveals the press release for ring noord – Wild Flowers. Whilst this may sound like an incredibly overblown description when used to describe certain artists, in the case of this new DnB music project by Nik Roos (Noisia / Sleepnet) and Jasper Scholma (Former), this description is entirely appropriate.
