Hailing from Russia, eclectic producer Moonbeam (aka Vitaly Khvaleev) has delivered a slew of intriguing Melodic House and Techno singles in recent years, including Michael, Gabriel, Azrael and Shadow. Now he’s released Moonbeam – Rafael (It’s Time To Be Free), another atmospheric and hypnotic single in the Melodic House and Techno vein.
According to Moonbeam himself, “the smooth, enchanting vocal topline” of Rafael (It’s Time To Be Free) “effortlessly infuses the song with a memorable dose of soul and emotion while also making it perfect to sing along to while dancing”. The artist also notes “the bright, shimmering synths and how they are nicely paired with a memorable driving beat and cool rhythms”, which in turn help to create the upbeat but emotive vibe of the song. We couldn’t agree more with Vitaly’s assessment of Rafael, a track which is made particularly captivating by the fact it is one of numerous songs the producer has recently released that is inspired by the archangels (reportedly a common myth within many world religions). Knowing this backstory arguably enhances the mysterious, ethereal feel of Moonbeam – Rafael (It’s Time To Be Free) to an even greater extent, particularly when you take into consideration the choral synths and reverb-drenched vocals that feature throughout.
Another distinctive feature of the track is the rich, mesmeric melodies used within both the lead vocal and synth lines. They ensure the track is made up of both style and substance, delivering satisfyingly catchy tunes without detracting attention from its deep resonant bass and electrifying, uplifting rhythmic elements. The track’s production is also notable, with Moonbeam successfully creating a crisp, melody-centric sound that also emphasises the organic feel which many Melodic House and Techno producers aspire to create with their music.
Moonbeam – Rafael (It’s Time To Be Free) might be the producer’s first release of 2024, but it’s got him off to a strong start. It will have certainly piqued the interest of Melodic House and Techno fans, with many no doubt waiting with baited breath to hear the remaining four songs in this stunningly originally and distinctive ‘archangel’ series.
