Melted Computer – Maybe is the brand new single from a producer who is still relatively new to the scene. As showcased by this new release, he dabbles in genres from Chillout to Electronica, with much of his material (including previous tracks like Cat Time, Dream Vacation and Tuning In) also retaining an experimental edge.
Melted Computer – Maybe keeps to this theme by playing around with unusual synth sounds and atypical song structures; from the get-go, the trackβs dreamy but uplifting electronics and wandering melodies tell listeners that this isnβt going to be any ordinary Chillout release. Indeed, it seems that this was the vibe the artist was going for when he created the track in the first place, saying βI take inspiration from many genres and artists. I always try to make something uniqueβ.
Similarly, the track is also notable for the crackling production effects employed throughout, giving Melted Computer – Maybe an intriguing retro feel, almost as though it is being played through an old radio or similar piece of equipment. The trackβs bold production choices never get in the way, however; rather they enhance Maybeβs minimalistic beats and simple but catchy melodies by giving them a more distinctive flavor.Β
Talking of distinctive, the singleβs artwork is also worth a look, reflecting the experimental style of the track with an abstract design not unlike the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Bright colors mix with pastels and form unusual, unidentifiable shapes, perhaps representing the way in which Melted Computer – Maybe blends together a variety of genres to create something uplifting, but ultimately undefinable.Β
We have already seen numerous releases from Melted Computer this year, in the form of one EP and five singles (not including Maybe). He might be relatively new to the scene, but from this handful of releases alone itβs clear that the artist already has a vision in mind for how his music is going to sound and how the artwork of his releases will complement this. His style is bold and distinctive, and here at EKM we canβt wait to see the direction that he takes it in next.
