Ignacio Wer is undoubtedly an experienced figure in the music industry, having first formed a band when he was a teenager in Buenos Aires and then proceeding to spend the next portion of his life touring and recording. His style is primarily melodic country-folk, although in recent years he has also started dabbling in atmospheric, synth-driven soundscapes. Ignacio Wer – The Snow And The Ocean slots perfectly in to the latter category, and features on the artist’s latest release, the three-track EP Much A Time In Ache.
Using delicate legato synths, plaintive melodies and rippling pads, Ignacio Wer – The Snow And The Ocean develops an atmosphere that encapsulates its title to a tee. As gentle flutters of melody move through the track, you can almost picture the waves of the ocean on a snowy winter’s day, ebbing and flowing across frost-bitten sand in a soothing, rhythmic motion. Later, subtle chords bulk up the track’s otherwise stripped back sound, lending a feeling of richness to its final few minutes before slowly slipping away. The other key element of the song is a breathy hissing sound, created via electronics and enhanced by intricate production; it really intensifies that feeling that you’re watching the ocean on a clear, crisp morning with the wind gently whistling around your ears.
With Ignacio Wer – The Snow And The Ocean, the artist has created a tranquil yet evocative track that will leave you with an intense feeling of poignancy and relaxation. “My soul resides in music” says Wer, describing himself as an artist, and with tracks like these you really begin to believe that this is true. The Snow and the Ocean (as well as the other two tracks on the EP, Yonder Fades The Silence and Much A Time In Ache) are clearly the work of an artist who does not simply make music for the sake of it, but rather uses it to portray his own experiences and emotions.
