French Caviar – Hard For The Money is one of the latest releases from a relatively new duo whose name connotes the classiness and style of the music they make. As also indicated by their collective name, both members of the duo are French – one is a DJ who describes himself as “a prominent figure in the French clubbing scene” and goes by the name of Jean-Mi, whilst the other is Hubert, a musician, and producer who is perhaps best known for his DJ Guitar Show concept. To date, the pair have put out three singles and an EP, although this particular single (a Donna Summer – She Works Hard For The Money Nu Disco / House cover/remix) is surely the most overtly energetic and crowd-pleasing of their releases so far.
Released in May 1983, the original version of the song was the title track of Donna Summer’s eleventh studio album. It reached number 3 on the US charts and also saw much success elsewhere, its fresh, vibrant, and danceable feel powering it to the top 10 in countries as varied as Finland, Australia, and Spain. French Caviar’s version, meanwhile, takes the freshness and vibrancy of the original and manages to make it even easier to dance to, adding some fluttering, cosmic synths and a hefty, pulsing bassline to really give the track some extra punch. Their added instrumentation combined with the song’s original catchy vocal hook results in a Donna Summer – She Works Hard For The Money Nu Disco / House cover/remix that glistens with vitality and exhilaration. Keep an eye on this duo, as judging by the quality of the music they’ve recorded so far it’s likely that French Caviar – Hard For The Money is just the beginning of their story.
