East coast producer D3LT4 has been perfecting his genre-bending techniques since his college days, building his sound around elements of Bass House and Trap music, as well as his cyberpunk-influenced aesthetic. As was also the case with his first single this year, In My Zone, his latest release D3LT4 – Body goes heavy on both of these genres, whilst adding in a sprinkling of dark futurism for good measure.
D3LT4 – Body kicks off with some mystical, intriguing synths designed to catch the listeners’ attention instantly, before laying down some hard-edged vocals that establish the track’s steadfast, insistent sound (“don’t know what you started / I didn’t come here to play”). As the song starts to build – something the artist achieves via high, wailing synths and more complex percussion parts – the vocal becomes more abstract, descending into a chaotic sound that sees the word ‘body’ pushed to the forefront. Eventually D3LT4 – Body explodes into a heavy, bass-driven drop, and still the vocal persists, becoming more energetic and unwavering as the song really begins to get into its stride. At this point things really start to heat up, with the track’s title being repeated relentlessly as another build-up ensues. With the bass going into overdrive and the track’s sound becoming rawer and more aggressive by the second, the final drop really emphasizes the artist’s Bass House influences, persisting for another minute or so before waves of gritty bass and some higher synths signal the beginning of the track’s outro.
With D3LT4 – Body, this burgeoning East Coat artist has re-emphasised the fact that he is a growing force to be reckoned with, not necessarily within the realm of any specific genre of EDM, but rather as an incredibly creative artist who is never happy to settle for making music that simply follows the rules.
