Florent Lelong – Orion is the perfect new release for fans of chill, atmospheric instrumental tracks. Lifted from the upcoming album CONSTELLATION, which Lelong describes as “the culmination of ten years of a sonic quest”, the track follows on from two other singles that the seasoned electronic pop producer has put out this year (the similarly spacey Pegasus and Gemini, both of which have already received rave reviews from the media). “Let your mind wander and explore new horizons” says Lelong of this new track, and with its captivating, cinematic feel we can’t help but do just that.
Florent Lelong – Orion begins with a gentle swirl of atmospheric synths that immediately transport you to the far reaches of the cosmos, before a rhythmic beat is added to lend the track some propulsive energy. From this point onwards Orion is also instantly reminiscent of the work of some of the greatest electronic artists of our time, notably Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre, who Lelong surely took inspiration from to create this transportive masterpiece of a track.
Elsewhere in the song, segments of dramatic instrumentals lead to some melodies clearly influenced by electro pop, that give Orion a more optimistic air towards the end. At the beginning of the piece the atmosphere is almost mysterious, as though we are taking a step onto an unknown planet, but by this point the atmosphere is truly triumphant, with brass-like synths and a dynamic bass line keeping the track sailing along nicely.
Indeed, perhaps the most notable aspect of Florent Lelong – Orion is how it seems to take its listener on a journey. In this sense it can be compared to a piece of film music, and as such it’s easy to imagine this song soundtracking a scene in a brand new space-age adventure. With this in mind, we are very excited to hear what Lelong has in store for us with the remainder of his upcoming album CONSTELLATION, and where tracks like Pegasus, Gemini and of course Orion fit into its running time.
